Reading and More

Reading and More volunteers assist individual students by providing reading mentoring to Jarrell Independent School District elementary students twice a week.  Students and staff select appropriate level books to be read by the student.   Second and/or third grade students interact and read to Assistance League members who listen and provide support as needed.  A training session at the beginning of the school year provides volunteers with strategies to be used for word identification and comprehension.  

Also, books and remedial reading programs, selected by school staff, are purchased for Jarrell Independent School District and to the Florence Independent School District if funds allow.  The amount spent varies depending on the budget and available funds.

Members who participate in this philanthropic program find it to be beneficial to the students involved and very rewarding for the volunteer.
